Like any gathering spot, a Discord server is at its best when everyone feels welcome and safe. That's where server rules come in, providing a framework for behaviour and interaction. You can see below the Discord server rules that are active on our server. They are comprehensive and short, feel free to copy them for your own server.

1. Be respectful - You must respect all users, regardless of your liking towards them. Treat others the way you want to be treated.

2. No Inappropriate Language - The use of profanity should be kept to a minimum. However, any derogatory language towards any user is prohibited.

3. No spamming - Don't send a lot of small messages right after each other. Do not disrupt chat by spamming.

4. No pornographic/adult/other NSFW material - This is a community server and is not meant to share this kind of material.

5. No advertisements - Do not post any advertisements, whether it be for other communities or streams, without prior admin or moderator approval. You can post your content in the media channel if it is relevant and provides actual value (Video/Art).

6. No offensive names and profile pictures - You will be asked to change your name or picture if the staff deems them inappropriate.

7. Server Raiding - Raiding or mentions of raiding are not allowed.

8. Direct & Indirect Threats - Threats to other users of DDoS, Death, DoX, abuse, and other malicious threats are absolutely prohibited and disallowed.

9. Don’t share your personal information - Do not share your personal information or the personal information of other users without their consent. This includes phone numbers, addresses, and any other sensitive information.

Crafting Your Rules

When crafting your server rules, clarity is key. Be specific, be fair, and ensure that the rules reflect the kind of community you wish to cultivate. It’s also essential to update the rules as your server grows and evolves.

Implementing and Enforcing Rules

Enforcement should be consistent. Set up a system for reporting breaches and take action when rules are broken. Use bots to help moderate when possible, and make sure there’s a process for appealing decisions.

• Create A 'Rules' Channel - When you first create a server, you are prompted to create a ‘Rules’ channel. However, if you skipped it or wish to create a new one, right-click on your server’s name and then on ‘Create Channel‘. Then, name the channel something straightforward like “rules” or “server-rules”. Lastly, click on ‘Create Channel‘.

• Pin The Rules - After sending our the message with your desired rules, select ‘Pin Message‘ to pin your Discord rules to the channel for easy access.

• Set Up Role-Based Permissions - To avoid others making adjustments to your Discord server rules, you need to set permissions for the channel. To do so, right-click on your rules channel, go to ‘Edit Channel‘ and then to the ‘Permissions‘ tab. Set up role-based permissions to restrict who can send, edit or delete messages in the rules channel. Additionally, you can also turn it into a read-only channel. You can also manage these roles easily using the Bind workspace once you have added Bind to your server.
